My Favorite Blog
There are thousands if not millions of blogs out there.  Most of these are just personal diaries, but some are quite informative and useful.  The blog that I read the most has to be Scott Kelby’s Photoshop Insider.  He usually has some excellent photography tips, and the blog is entertaining.  Scott Kelby has also authored the one book that I keep beside me and my computer when I am working with Photoshop – The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book for Digital Photographers.  This is a fantastic book for beginners to Photoshop as it assumes you know next to nothing.

Photograph
I took this photograph while on safari to Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area with some great friends from Fort Smith, Arkansas.  We had seen a couple of big male lions sleeping close to the road earlier in the day.  As the day drew to a close, we thought we would go have one more last look.  As we approached the area, both lions were getting upping and walking towards the road.  We parked and this one plopped down right beside our vehicle.  It was an amazing experience.

For this shot, I used Nik Effects amazing new plugin software called Vivesa.  With this software you can make adjustments to specific areas and colors without the use of all of the complicated masks in Photoshop.  In particular for this photograph, it really brought out the color in the eyes.  Very soon, they are coming out with Vivesa 2 which will allow you to also make global adjustments.

Inspiring
If you are in the mood for some inspiring photographs, then check out this website of photographer, Rarindra Prakarsa.  These are absolutely beautiful shots and the post-production is flawless.

Photograph
This photograph was taken a couple of years ago.  My boys and I took a day and went hiking at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas.  In this park is a beautiful waterfall called CedarFalls.  We actually arrived in early spring right after a heavy rain.  The waterall was roaring!

In order to get this more artsy effect, I took 5 photos with different exposures.  I then used Photomatix to put them together.  Later, I brought it into photoshop and fine-tuned it.  I hope you enjoy…

Stuck In Customs/Topaz/Elephant Sky

New Book Coming
I am extremely excited about the brand new book coming out by Trey Ratcliff called “A World in HDR.”  You still have a few days left to pre-order the new book and receive a limited edition numbered series print.  Click here for info on the book or go to Trey’s website – Stuck In Customs.

The Photograph
This photograph was taken in Tarangire National Park in Tanzania.  It was an overcast day and made for some great shots.  Tarangire is known for one of East Africa’s highest concentration of elephants.  We saw over 1000 elephants that day.  We had seen this particular herd from a distance.  We decided to wait to see what they would do.  I turned off the car engine, and we waited.  Shortly thereafter, the herd made its way right past our vehicle.  They were trumpeting and sniffing for our scent, because they had quite a few young ones with them.  It was an amazing experience.

On this particular photograph I used Topaz Adjust and Topaz Details to bring out the texture of their skin and the fantastic sky in the background.
